FEEDBACK
FROM HER READERS
Although What She Wants is in its fifth year of publication, the collective behind it is fairly new. In fact, it was only this summer when we took our twomonth break from publication that we discovered that who we actually are only vaguely resembled whom we had listed in our staff box. After a little over two months of "therapy", we're beginning to find out many more things about each other, such as what we're like as individuals, what our politics are, how we work together, and what we want (and get) from working on the paper. It is a very energizing. process which at some point we would like to share with you because it probably relates to the process that many other feminist groups have gone through or will go through.
As we change internally, we expect to make some changes in the look and content of WSW. We feel
that lately we've been functioning mainly as a forum for what's going on in the women's community. We would like to broaden our focus, be more consistent in our coverage of current women's issues in effect, to put out a paper that reflects our politics and helps us and our readers grow politically. We have some strong ideas about where we want to go, but it's very important that we hear your ideas. What do you like or not like about the paper? What would you like to see more or less of? What do you want from a women's newspaper?
In addition to feedback, we need articles and help with production. Next time you have something important to say, put it down on paper and mail it to us. Or call us. If you have time to donate instead of words, we would love to have your help with pro-
duction. It takes the seven of us a good part of a week to put out the paper. Let us know if you have any skills to offer in the area of typesetting or layout or just a desire to learn. We're especially eager to hear from artists who would like their work featured and would be willing to work with us through production of an issue.
To make ourselves more accessible to you, we've started new office hours. We'll be at the White House (2420 So. Taylor) from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Stop in or call us at 371-5376. Or you can usually leave a message Monday through Friday during the day.
Thank you for the support you've given us in the past. We're working hard to insure that What She 'Wants will be what you want.
OPEN LETTER FROM THE THREE OF CUPS
When we opened we had visions of our space being filled up every day. What we hadn't counted III

on was how very much energy just running the business would take. So here after some months is our outreach attempt to let you know we are here
and suggest some ways we might be of help to each other.
What we can do for you:
be an after meeting place to talk; be a place for fund-raising events; be a place to get out your information. What you can do for us:
bring in more business (our source of survival).
Example: On May 14, the Women's Growth Co-op held a spaghetti dinner here. They sold tickets ahead of time and generally got the word around. One or two persons basically did the cooking ahead of time and then several women worked the day and evening of the dinner, about 8 hours maximum. About 150 people had dinner and the bar did the best
OFFENSE AGAINST ALBUM COVERS
(Her Say) -Warner Communications Inc. claims it is doing "everything possible” to eliminate, in the future, all record album covers and advertisements which depict violence against women.
Warner says that its three recording subsidiaries, Warner Brothers, Atlantic and Electra Asylum will "whenever possible" no longer put out records which are offensive to women.
The statement comes in the wake of a national boycott of all Warner Communications products by a group called Women Against Violence Against Women (WAVAW). The group says that certain advertisements and album covers show women
business since its opening. The Growth Co-op raised about $300 over costs.
We would love to hear from you if you see a possibility of using the space. We would like your ideas even if you aren't thinking of using the space.
We would also appreciate it if you would inform all your friends of our existence. Our restaurant serves the best home-made food in town. Come in for lunch or dinner or just to have a drink in the evening.
Hope to see you in the near future.

being beaten, brutalized, or depicted in a sexually explicit way on ads for records, or on the LP covers themselves. One such album, by Montrose, depicts a woman's crotch with the LP's title, "Jump On It", splashed across the top.
Warner claims the company has no control over some big name artists, who commission their advertisements and album covers themselves. However, Julia London, a spokesperson for WAVAW, says that such an argument is "absurd".
London says that Warner must withdraw all offensive album covers on the market now, and refuse to distribute, even for big name artists, if they continue to use women to sell their albums.
